How well do u think a 58" hd 1080p plasma will do as a pc monitor for dods lol? random question getting a new t.v today im thinking my fps will drop dramaticly i have a huge card so you never know might be cool to play it on that big a t.v if it runs smooth but ill be having to turn my head alot to see the screen lol any thoughts anyone else play on a big one?

*edited out something I found hilarious regarding a "playing on a big one" and prison*

Oh, well you really don't need to worry about being able to push the size of the screen at all. You have to push the resolution. And really, 1920x1080 is the most that any HDTV is. What video card do you have? You could do it. I have a friend that bought a Radeon 5830 (yeah, he didn't follow my advice on that one) and plays triple headed with his 42" screen in the middle and two 19" on the wings.

For DODS, you will be fine. I run a 5770 because I game at 1680x1050 (1.7 megapixels) and at 1920x1080 (2.0 megapixels), you should be just fine. I run ~250-280 fps. Figure you will take a hit that will knock you down to 180 or so. Anything over 60 fps is good.

is plasma relly good ide to play games on? or is it only me how is having bad experienc on that?

Not actually sure what the issue would be. The only issue I can think of would be burn-in... but that has been a non-issue since people have not really had issues with it. That isn't to say I'd leave my desktop on overnight or anything like that, but it shouldn't present any problems.

Burn in is probably the biggest thing with a computer and a plasma. Even if you don't burn it, you will get after images, or shadows of your start menu etc. I see it with my 50in plasma even when I don't leave something on too long

Larry Bird ( a.k.a. the king of BHOP) just told me you may be entering the danger zone. You should go nvidia for resolutions this high.

You know, Larry Bird, one of the best Bhoppers of all time, anyways, that may be a bit too taxing for that card. I'm also saying nvidia performs better on and with higher resolutions.

If your going to use a plasma for a monitor turn down the settings so its not on its torch mode. Plasma WILL burn in or get image retention if you leave the same picture up there for long enough. I would check to see if your TV has a white wash setting. This setting makes your TV go bright white for 2 hours, to balance any burn in or image retention. This will make your TV lose many hours of life. I would say your safe for a couple hours of game play here and there, but I would not use it for extended periods of time.

58 inch!!!, how'd you guess???

nah, i think that it depends on the game, if your playing a racing game then yeah maybe, but a game like DODS i think the screen would just be too large and you would be straining your eyes while playing

been playing on the 58inch for about a month now i have not noticed any flaws except sometimes the ingame chat blurs a little but thats no big deal at all really lol... and the built in speakers are not very loud....fps has actually increased for some reason o.0 i use to get about 160 i now top over 200 usually ha! plus i can see so much further into the distance for quick sniping as compared to my old 27inch flatscreen =]

so i give the 58'' panasonic 1080p vierra a 8/10 1 point for the blured chat and 1 more point for the built in speakers rather suck on these models i have to blast them to 90/100 sometimes watching digital cable.. thank god for surround sound for t.v/movies and headset for gaming =]
