I'm rereading A Dance with Dragons by George RR Martin (AKA "Game of Thrones").

...And I'm lagging and procrastinating my way through War and Peace.

That one took a while to get through...

After reading through all the Song of Fire and Ice books, I decided to catch up with my wife who was reading through the Harry Potter books. I'm currently on the 8th one, "Half Blood Prince."

After I finish HP, I might go back to some Tom Clancy stuff. He's been writing a lot lately, and I need to get caught up. Maybe he should team up with GRR and we could actually get a new book out from that series sometime this year.

A Confederacy of Dunces by James Kennedy Toole

Its basically about a fat smart Don Quixote esque character who wanders around New Orleans and does things while being a good for nothing

The Damned by Nathan Greenfield

The Damned tells the largely unknown saga of Canada’s first land battle of the Second World War -- fought in the hills and valleys of Hong Kong in December 1941 -- and the terrible years the survivors of the battle spent as slave labourers for the Empire of Japan.

Last night i curled up w/ my kindle and thought i was going to read The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. Unfortunately it wasn't the book but a summary and study guide instead...waste of 10 bucks...thanks amazon :/ So instead i read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

I read Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell while I was on holiday. It chronicles his time in an anti-fascist militia in Spain after Franco's military putsch. Fascinating stuff for anyone interested in military conflicts and/or politics.

Also am working my way through Matterhorn: A Novel of The Vietnam War, but not that excited about it. While the historic accuracy of it all is fairly decent, the writing style itself is choppy and sometimes feels as if it doesn't do the events it is trying to describe justice.

Anyone read any of these before? And SOMEONE ELSE NOW GO; I love books, I want to know who else does!

I've read Matterhorn. I suppose it was ok.

Right now I'm focusing my reading on topical pieces that are related to my field of study.

I LOVE to read! I read all kinds of stuff but I really love memoirs.

If anyone has a kindle or ipad or any ereader really there is a group on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EreaderNewsToday?r...location=stream

They link about 6 different free books found on Amazon a day... they dont stay free for long! They do the work of finding them for you. They arent always good but I have found some decent ones that way.

I really love Laurell K Hamilton - the Anita Blake series and for easy reads I love Robert Parker.

And yes - I am on the Hunger Games bandwagon although I hated the movie. The books were awesome.

Exactly how I'm feeling. It's just...ok. I was hoping for so much more.

I'm still on the old-fashioned paper route of reading. I have an ipad but just never have bothered to read with it, other than news. I'm old though so maybe I'm being stubborn.

Also, never read anything by Hamilton or Collins, but as long as people are reading, I've got nothing against 'em. Even Twilight encouraged a surge in book sales for other Y.A. authors, so whatever it takes to get people to read, I support.

I know what you mean about the e-reader thing! It took me a long time of fighting it before I would try it and the only reason I continue to do it is the free books without having to go to the library!!

    • jelly3384's application for Enlistment Form Questions Name you wish to use and Age: (Our unit uses realistic names, this does not have to be your real name) Pigeon, 16 Platform Type Epic Games Store Steam ID (Use 17 Digit SteamID 64 / PC Game Pass Account Username): Pigeon_theft   Do you have a microphone? Yes   Which game title are you applying for? Hell Let Loose   If you've selected Hell Let Loose, do you understand that this game is currently not cross platform capable and only PC players currently may apply? ( Steam or PC Game Pass) Yes   Why do you wish to join the 1st Marine Raiders? I've played BFV and milsimed in it, and it was a lot more fun when I milsimed. and I enjoy playing HLL, so I think it is going to be more fun when I join.   Did any of our current members play a part in you enlisting? If so, who? If none, how did you learn about us: I found you guys from a website called disboard when looking for HLL milsim groups to join.   This unit offers more than just a place to play games with each other, do you have any online skills you think would be useful? no   Do you have any Leadership experience that you think will be helpful? I'm not sure if it will be helpfull, but I used to be in BFV milsim groups and in my last one I got to [E-7] out of [E-1] to [O-8], so I was a NCO and I helped the officers with whatever they needed doing, weather it was assisting with training, settling disputes or helping them decide what was appropriate disciplinary action. And when we were in combat I was usually assigned to lead my own squad.   Have you ever been in a realism unit before, and if so, which unit was it? yes. I was in quite a few BFV milsim groups, although I was only in one at any given time. unfortunately, I have left the discord servers and I do not remember the names of them. if you would like, I could probably give a reference to someone who was an officer in most of the groups I was in.   By posting this Enlistment form, I acknowledge the instructions completely, declare that I am 16 years old or older, and agree that I have and will follow server and unit rules maturely and respectfully or face immediate rejection.
