This goddamn "blizzard" made the school boards up here shit their pants and cancel school. Unfortunately, it would have only been a half-hour day anyways because all we were doing was getting our marks. Still, omnly about 10cm have fallen, I've gone to school in worse, but all the weatherpeople freaking out made the school board paranoid.

It was pretty nasty here, but I've seen much worse.

Around Chicago here we got pretty good (18" or so) - but the drifting made it kinda bad.

Where I grew up, I remember going down country roads where the plows would go and keep things back as best they could, but eventually the drifts were 10+ ft tall, and the road would narrow to one lane.

So going out and seeing only a foot or so of snow (undrifted) around town makes me go "why all the fuss?"

Although this photo says a lot (it's Chicagos famous 'lakeshore drive' - the most traveled road in the city, essentially it's backbone). The drivers here were in stand-still traffic for over 5 hours. Some cars ran out of gas, and eventually the cops told everyone to abandon their cars and go home. This is a legitimate - real - undoctored photo taken today I think.

We had that stuff awhile back. It wasn't a blizzard, but it made the Washington DC-Baltimore-Annapolis Metro areas hell:

End Result of Shoveling the Day After

I was a dumbass who decided to drive into the shoveled snow that was like 8-9 inches high drifts and my ground clearance is just a few inches below that iirc. Had to dig a path in front and behind the car to the carport, drive forward, clear out the rest of the drive, and back up before the unshoveled snow that still covered the gravel solidified to ice.

That quick storm last week in Virginia was hell. Freezing rain immediately froze the roads and then the snow came in instantly after. If people had left only 30 minutes earlier then there wouldn't have been any problems but DC doesn't like letting people leave early from work >.<

Pangilinan drove a record 3-4 miles in 6 hours xD

Another friend of mine took 12 hours.

...or George Mason University for that matter.
